Album Review - Wild Nothing - Nocturne

Nocturne is the much anticipated second album from Dream Pop artist Jack Tatum, known as Wild Nothing. His first album, Gemini, was recorded in Tatum’s dorm room while he was in college. This time around, he is out of college, and was able to work full time on his album. Jack Tatum has never tried to be a big personality, once saying “You want to know me? What’s to know?”. But this album and it’s former are nothing if not huge albums.

Gemini was given great reviews, and a very good reaction, despite Tatum’s lack of budget. This time, he was a good budget, and the sound quality sounds great. Nocturne’s style is very similar to the former, with Dream Pop guitar rythms with synthetic drums, and finally over everything else, Tatum’s calm voice to give all of his albums a very relaxed album. It starts out with the hypnotic track “Shadow”, and never lets down. Although at points the album is minimalist, with just one or two backing tracks behind the vocals, Jack Tatum was a perfectionist and his biggest critic during the album. He made sure every sound fit perfectly and synced with everything else in a dreamy way. Mission accomplished.

Some songs on this album are just thick and rich with sound, like the second track “Midnight Song”, while others are minimalist, but equally great, like “Heather”. Like his similar artists (Beach Fossils, and DIIV), Tatum does a great job of combining elements of Beach Pop, and Dream Pop into a great combination. The two genres of music have similar qualities, and match up very well with each other.

Overall, this album is a great album to listen to on any occasion. Whether you just want to relax, get up and move, or just sit and listen to some good music, this album is great. I doubt you will be able to find anything on this album that will bug you, and I give it a solid 9.7

Unbelievable

Pitchfork gave Centipede Hz a 7.4

It was at least a 9.0

NOTE: I hate metal, and the song fireflies, but this was just too funny XD
